M & N Tax Consultants was founded in 1977 by Woody Mayfield, a local C.P.A. who gave us the ("M" in M & N) and Dan Nielson (the "N"), an Enrolled Agent.  Originally located on Bank Street in downtown Grass Valley, the company moved to its present location in 1985.

After several ownership changes, the company was purchased by its present owner, Clive Sewell, in October 1997.

Clive Sewell

Clive worked as a public accountant, an auditor and a management consultant in London, Hong Kong and Indonesia before immigrating to the United States in 1974.  After operating an international management consulting practice serving Government and Industry, and starting several businesses in Southern California, Clive moved to Nevada County in 1983.

Clive is an Enrolled Agent and holds a Master of Taxation degree from Golden Gate University.  He is a member of both the National and California Associations of Enrolled Agents. Clive is a past president of the Board of Directors of the local Child Advocates organization, and he is also actively involved in the Gold Country Estate Planning Council.

Clive has been married to his wife Nancy since 1982, has four children, the youngest two being born in Nevada County.  He is also grandfather to four boys.

Galina Fitzsimons

Galina worked as an accountant and an auditor in Lithuania for 22 years after graduating from Vilnius State University. She immigrated to the United States in 1998. She qualified as an enrolled agent in 2004.

Galina has two sons and two grandchildren.

Pamela Idol

Pamela Idol joined M & N in February, 2006 as a tax preparer, after working for several years in Seattle as a technical writer for several software development companies. She has also worked as a tax preparer in Washington and Idaho. When she arrived in California, she obtained CTEC certification. In addition to preparing tax returns, Pamela also works with financial data preparing reports and spreadsheets, and is involved with tax software implementation.

Pamela moved to Grass Valley to be near her two sons, their wives, and her two grandsons who keep her very busy during her leisure hours.

Shannon Hatton

Shannon Hatton joined M & N in January, 2008, after more than ten years' experience as a tax preparer. She has lived in the Grass Valley area for 24 years. During the off-season she enjoys gardening and spending time with her two wonderful dogs. In December 2007 her first grandchild, Antonia Rose, was born. Shannon's second career in life is now as a doting nanna and free baby-sitter.

Barbara Willcox

Barbara heads up our bookkeeping department. After living overseas for several years, Barbara retired to Nevada County and is very active in her passion -- Greyhounds.  She not only cares for two of these beautiful animals, but also assists with adoption of other retired racers. She has been with the company since 1993 and has two daughters and a son.

Barbara Chronister

The "other" Barbara has been our receptionist since 2000.  A friend and helper to all our clients, she is the voice of the company.  Our older clients are especially grateful to the way she assists them with understanding their tax returns, filling out checks and completing their business affairs.

Barbara has five children and five grandchildren and can often be seen walking her way to fitness.
